Aaptha Rakshaka is an upcoming Kannada film, written and directed by P. Vasu. Vishnuvardhan (200th film) Sandhya, Vimala Raman, Avinash, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy and Komal in the lead roles. It is the part 2 of blockbuster film Apthamitra that was directed by P. Vasu and starred Vishnuvardhan.
Vishnuvardhan died following a cardiac attact on 30th Dec 2009. Vishnu has completed the voice dubbing and the film will be release in Jan 2010.
In the original film Apthamitra, Soundarya died in a crash. It was later proposed that South Indian Actress Sneha would play the lead role. But due to call sheet problems and her busy schedule, Sneha was unable to join the sets and then she was replaced by Sandhya.

Vishnuvardhan said that Aaptha Rakshaka could be described as a film that takes you back to the memories of Aaptha Mithra. “You can call it a sequel or not as per your own interpretations of the film. The film will have two links of the original film. One is my own character and the other is that of Avinash. The other artists like Sreenivasa Murthy, Komal and Ramesh Bhat are the new links. The film has five lady lead characters though all of them can not be termed as heroines of the film.”
Vishnu also said that Aaptha Rakshaka was one of the most difficult films that he had worked in his career as he had to work in different locations and was to be seen in different costumes of different periods.
