Mahatma Gandhi University (M G U) was established on 2 October 1983 in Kottayam. The University has 223 affiliated colleges spread over five districts in central Kerala.
The University is funded by the University Grants Commission and Government of Kerala. It is a member of the AIU and the ACU.
The University enrolls 1,50,000 students on an average every year to 210 Courses in graduate, post graduate and M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes through various departments and colleges.
